Learn to Dive on Bonaire: What You Need to Know Before Your First SSI Course
Bonaire is a strong location to learn to dive. Warm water. Calm conditions. Easy shore entries. At Wanderlust Dive Center we guide new divers step by step with the SSI system. The answers below address the questions most beginners ask.
• Your first certification takes about three days
• Theory goes through the SSI app on your phone
• Training takes place in small groups or private
• Rental equipment is included
• Water is warm with clear visibility
• Safety is part of every session
• Next steps include Perfect Buoyancy or Navigation
How the SSI Open Water Diver course works
You start with the digital theory in the SSI app. You complete this at your own pace. Then you learn basic skills in shallow water. After that you complete four open water dives from shore. Your instructor supports breathing control, buoyancy and communication under water. Progress follows your comfort level.
How long it takes to learn to dive
About three days. Planning is flexible. Small groups support steady progress without pressure.
Do you need your own gear
No. A complete rental set is included. Many new divers choose to buy their own mask later. A well-fitting mask gives more comfort and prevents leaks.
Is Bonaire suitable for beginners
Yes. Conditions are calm and predictable. Shore entries allow you to start close to the coastline. You build confidence from the first session.
How safety works during training
Every dive includes:
• Buddy check
• Clear briefing
• Controlled descent and ascent
• Simple underwater communication signals
We maintain all equipment and follow standard training procedures. Safety is integrated, not added later.
Medical requirements
You complete a health questionnaire before the course. In some situations a doctor’s approval is required. We provide the correct forms and guidance.
Water and visibility on Bonaire
